Dalyan is a neighborhood of Ortaca district of Muğla province.
The Köyceğiz Lake swamp (in Turkey, it is called Dalyan for short) is located in this town.
Dalyan is located on the main channel connecting Köyceğiz Lake and the Mediterranean Sea. Iztuzu beach, where the Dalyan canal reaches the sea, is one of the beaches where the sea turtles, Caretta Carettas, lay their eggs. The ancient city of Kaunos is also in Dalyan. The town has a population of around 8,000. Although it is close to many famous tourism centers, it is relatively less developed in terms of tourism. The reason for this is that Dalyan is located 12 km from the main road. As can be understood from its name, the most important income of Dalyan in the past was fishing, cotton farming was in the second place. Today, the most important economic activity is tourism. There are over 100 accommodation places, over 20 restaurants, many travel agencies and shopping places in Dalyan. Blue crab is famous. Since the climate of Dalyan is mild as in many Mediterranean cities, the town can be visited in spring, summer and winter. However, the best season for a touristic visit to Dalyan is June-July, which is the spawning season of Caretta Carettas. These months are more enjoyable in terms of tourism due to the revival in the population of the city.[1]
